The Whitsundays offer plenty of options to satisfy everyone: luxury, five-star resorts are ideal for movie stars; relaxing family vacation destinations for families; romantic and secret locations for passionate couples; and an opportunity to discover all these beauties with private crewed rental yachts.
The islands are located northeast of Mackay, and reaching Airlie Beach, the mainland exit point, is now possible. There are also direct flights to Hamilton Island from many capital cities.
Information:
The original names of the Whitsunday Islands were the Cumberland and Northumberland Islands, and they later became known as the Whitsunday Channel, which is the name of the channel between the two provinces of England, the mainland and South Molle, and the Daydream Islands.
How to go?
To reach the Whitsundays, Hamilton Island Airport and Whitsunday Coast Airport (located on the Proserpine mainland) operate regular airline services. Queensland Rail has regular weekly services to Proserpine from Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville. You can choose this route with the Fast Tilt Train or Sunlander services. Greyhound buses also run daily to Airlie Beach from Brisbane, Cairns and other destinations between these two points.
When to go?
The best time to visit the Whitsundays often depends on personal preference so that you can go anytime. However, the period between July and September is particularly recommended if you want to observe marine life and incredibly see a few whales during your visit. These months are the periods when whale sightings are frequent in the region.
