Australia is considered to be one of the leading countries around the world and there is a growing interest in this country. However, once you step foot in Australia, you will experience high standards not only in education but also in healthcare. At this point, it is important to emphasise that beyond having health insurance, it is an indicator of development. Health insurance symbolises confidence in the quality health services offered in the country and a conscious step to ensure access to these services.
Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC), a type of health insurance specifically designed for international students in Australia, is a policy offered in accordance with visa requirements. OSHC provides students with comprehensive cover for medical expenses, hospitalisations and other health services.

It may also include some additional health services, such as physiotherapy and optical services, depending on the policy chosen. However, coverage may vary between providers.
Obtaining health insurance before arriving in Australia can often be an overlooked issue, especially for students. However, health insurance should be in place from the moment you set foot in the country. This ensures that you are immediately covered in the event of unexpected health problems or accidents. Arranging health insurance before arrival allows students to be prepared for potential health problems.
When you arrive in Australia, you must activate your health insurance online and update your details. This will enable you to obtain your membership card.
To enrol, go to www.ahmoshc.com.au and click “Activate Your Membership”. Then, start filling in the online form. You can write the address of our Sydney Office (HUB-EDU Suite 602 L6 99 Bathurst Street Sydney NSW 2000) as the address so that your insurance card will be mailed to our Sydney Office, and you can easily pick up your membership card there.
There is an application that students can use in Australia (https://www.ahmoshc.com.au/oshc-support/mobile-apps/). Students can activate their insurance and perform many transactions from here by downloading the application.
The information update and insurance activation process must be completed within 60 days from the policy start date.
It is essential for students to provide up-to-date contact details (including e-mail address and AU telephone number). If your address changes, you can renew your address information on AHM OSHC’s website (www.ahmoshc.com.au), or by sending an e-mail to oshc@ahm.com.au.
AHM OSHC will post your membership card to your address.
If you need help, you can call 1800 006 745 free of charge. You can also contact the AHM team on 134246 or by emailing oshc@ahm.com.au.
If you have any questions, you can get support in your own language from our education counsellor in our Sydney office.
